Research and Development Supervisor – Monoblock

Job Function

Research and Development Supervisor – responsible for leading the research, development, and optimization of plastic formulations and products within the Business Unit. The role oversees New Product Introduction (NPI), Value Analysis/Value Engineering (VAVE), laboratory operations, research initiatives, cost optimization, and team performance to achieve departmental KPIs while ensuring product quality, innovation, and regulatory compliance.

Key Responsibilities

Product and Formulation Development

  • Lead the development, evaluation, qualification, and optimization of plastic formulations for new and existing products.
  • Prepare formulation specifications, costing, and quality evaluations.
  • Drive cost reduction initiatives through formulation improvements and efficient material utilization.
  • Support regulatory compliance, product certifications, and product claims.

Research and Innovation

  • Conduct research on sustainable materials, new technologies, and emerging market trends.
  • Evaluate alternative and low-cost materials for product improvement and cost savings.
  • Collaborate with suppliers, consultants, and research institutions on product innovation.
  • Prepare technical reports and maintain research documentation.

Project and Cost Management

  • Lead departmental plans and programs to achieve business objectives and KPI targets.
  • Prepare and monitor annual and monthly budgets, including CAPEX requirements.
  • Track project costs, timelines, and deliverables to ensure successful implementation.

Leadership and Team Management

  • Supervise the daily operations of the R&D Plastics Laboratory.
  • Develop work plans, assign tasks, monitor project execution, and evaluate team performance.
  • Promote collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement within the team.
  • Coordinate corrective actions and process improvements with cross-functional departments.

Operational Excellence

  • Establish and improve R&D systems and interdepartmental processes.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, ISO standards, and quality management requirements.
  • Support company productivity and continuous improvement programs such as SGA, 7S, ISO, and related initiatives.
  • Perform other duties that may be assigned by Management in support of organizational objectives.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • At least 3–5 years of experience in Research & Development, Product Development, or Manufacturing, preferably in the plastics industry.
  • Experience in formulation development, project management, and product innovation is an advantage.
  • Strong leadership, analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Possesses a positive attitude, flexibility in a multi-tasked environment, and the ability to manage priorities effectively.
  • Must be amenable to work in Valenzuela City.
